Chung-Lieh Hung is an attending physician at the Section of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, Mackay Memorial Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan. He also serves as associate professor and clinical instructor at Department of Medicine, Mackay Medical College in Taiwan.

His major expertise in academic work is mainly in the field cardiovascular imaging, with special focus in functional myocardial imaging and diagnostic yield of speckle-tracking based echocardiography techniques, aiming for early detection of myocardial dysfunction.

Dr Hung started up the alcohol animal model during PhD program. He spent a lot of time in my recent work in the study of molecular basis of electrical instability, and myocardial functional decay in animal mice model in the long-term alcohol fed and high fat diet (HFD) induced diabetes mice model had gained much attention (AHA Scientific Session, 2011; ESC congress 2013).

His team met Prof Che-Hong Chen about 5 years ago, and therefore start the focus of basic research to be ALDH2 Glu487Lys knock-in mice based chronic alcohol fed model, exploring the potential molecular mechanisms in this Asian-specific enzyme deficiency in acetaldehyde toxicity.
